Notes: This piece of briar exemplifies the old chestnut about judging a book by its cover. I selected this block for a custom-order rusticated pipe a customer had requested, but quickly changed course when the lathe uncovered an almost flawless pipe within the unprepossessing exterior. Unstained and finished only with carnuba wax, this rather chunky apple should color nicely with repeated smoking. The cross-grain features a broad swath of birdseye on the left side, with a more compact display on the right.
